I'm conflicted...

This gives me the same feeling as the first book in ACOTAR. It feels like nothing is happening for the most of the book and then it picks up at the end.

I did like the world building and the characters but it's very slow and if it wasn't hyped up so much on booktok I'd probably have stopped reading half way through. Apparently book 2 is better and picks up speed (same thing happened in ACOTAR) so I'll probably give it a shot but I need to read something else first.

The plot was weak, Hawke's attitude was jarring and annoying, Poppy's motivations were often confused, and yet, I'll read the next one.

I loved this book so much! You know fantasy is done right when it doesn’t feel like you are reading, but instead it feels like you are living in their world watching each scene in your mind. The ending had me giggling and kicking my feet, I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one in this series.

I started this book 7pm and finished it 5am soooo… really enjoyed reading this (did not enjoy next morning), even though there were a few predictable things. I quess for me it was more like ”I have to keep reading to see if I’m right” (sometimes I was, simetimes not) but anyways I was hooked. wating to start the next book and I will be sooo dissapointed if poppy is too forgiving. I want him to GROVEL for forgiveness!!

The story is good. The writing is meh. First book I’ve read by this author and I’m definitely “intrigued” enough to read the next ones, but it felt a little sloppy and Poppy’s mental rambling killed me. I did a lot of skimming .
