If I could give this series 10 stars, I would. The prose is invocative, the characters are inspiring and you want them to win so badly.

So far this is an interesting and fairly original cultivation story with a romance that is so sweet, so subtle, and such a slow burn that it can barely be called a romance at all. It would be perfect for younger people whose parents worry about exposing them to graphic relationship descriptions and topics, as there are none here. There is a lot of awkwardness about attraction, though, and that could create empathy for a younger reader.

I thought I was reading a self contained trilogy but here at the end of book 2 and the beginning of book 3 I do not believe that the characters can progress entirely in the remaining 3rd book unless something catastrophic happens. So, without having checked further yet, I suspect this series will continue past 3.

If I have a negative at all it's that these books could use a second run through by a copy editor. It's nothing all encompassing, nothing that yanks you out of the story by the scruff of your neck. There are a lot of places where it seems perhaps a sentence originally intended to be phrased one way, but another way was chosen but the clean up of the old way didn't quite happen. They read a bit like they were published half way through the editing process. Just a bit, though, and nothing that gets in the way of the story. At least not for me.
