SGJ is just not for me. There's something missing in his writing style and I just can't connect with it like I'd want to. Im glad he's so revered but it's just not for me!

This author has a really interesting narrative style + good use of tension. The stream of consciousness style + descriptions of basketball didn't quite grab me and I found myself skimming to get to the climax (which was great). This was my attempt to read more horror, but I think this book just wasn't for me!

The first half of the book was such a slog to get through.  After what happens w Lewis, it finally starts to get interesting but it continually lost me with its references to basketball. I loved the horror and supernatural elements to the story though. Didn't care much for many of these characters except for Deborah. Wouldn't read it again

I really wanted to love this book but the writing style had me almost DNF it several times. It was confusing to follow and the narrative style at times will switch between second and third person, leaving the reader to try and keep up with what is happening. Additionally, there are several plot holes that just never got filled and I am left with so many questions. Also if you know nothing about basketball, you may find yourself lost towards the end of the novel. However, the horror element is good with many moments stuck in my brain. Despite its flaws the book was still a good read, it just could have been done better either with changes to the writing or by expanding on certain points in a way that lines up better with the whole story.
