Okay so I liked this book, but I have complaints. For one - Vin could’ve been so much… better? More? I don’t know the right word. The side characters were far more interesting. I guess you could argue that this book was about Kelsier and Vin was there to experience what unfolded with the reader but she felt so one dimensional. Her job was to be a pretty girl who went to balls and fall in love with a man she spoke to 3 times (she’s 16, he’s 21 - gross). Not to mention she’s basically the only FMC, which I’m not used to lol.
That being said, I can definitely recognize how well thought out the lore is — probably the best I’ve seen. There were perfect explanations to the magic, politics, and people groups. Each one was very interesting and I never felt overwhelmed with information. I can also appreciate how grounded the world felt, with legitimate problems that weren’t always solved by a “chosen one” type character. Our main group didn’t always win, and I liked that.
TLDR: I won’t rave about it for the rest of my life but I’ll read the rest of the series to see what happens.

This was a really great read. Brandon Sanderson amazes me with the magic systems he creates for his worlds. I'd say the fact that this held my attention while I was also sprinting to finish my dissertation says a lot.
