Really interesting , sad and absorbing. I got very into it / couldn’t put it down and can’t stop thinking about it. It could have been fiction it was so well written.

I didn't know anything about ICarly and Jennette McCurdy, but this book was recommended somewhere and I surprisingly it was really easy to get into.

The way it's written really gives the feeling that you're in her head, replaying memory episodes of her life. Her point of view feels true to her state of mind at the moment and it's not about "analysing" what she lived but it's like living the moment with her.

Audiobook
Her emotional depth and being able to identify how she was feeling is very inspiring and so was her healing journey. The way she was able to allow us into her trauma in such a real way was powerful. Raw, vulnerable, and deeply human.

‘I’m Glad My Mom Died’ features the same theme all solid ones do: parental trauma. McCurdy explores how her childhood as an actor led to her years-long battles with alcoholism and eating disorders. She shares a very realistic, gradual path to recovery, complicated by jobs, shitty partners, and her mom’s actual death along the way.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read. McCurdy’s straightforward, stream-of-consciousness writing was appealing. Her candor and dry wit were appreciated during her discussion of dark topics.

Recommend!

i loved this memoir so much , such an intimate insight into the author’s life, her struggles with abuse, her struggles with self-destruction, etc. i thought it was incredibly paced & i thought every detail was important to the message of her story. this was such an emotional recount of her life’s events, i found myself tearing up more than once. i listened to it as an audiobook narrated by the author and phew did it help solidify the tone of her memoir. i would highly recommend this to anyone who’s interested in memoirs. so spectacular

Definitely be prepared for it to be triggering. It's a story of real abuse. But it's amazingly written. Every detail included and excluded is great. She knows just how much info to give that's relevant and moves the story forward even when writing about real events.

As someone who lost their abusive father to cancer it is also fairly relatable and helps me feel better about the complicated feelings I also had surrounding his death.
