Janette reading this was incredible. You can tell she’s a great actress by how she has different vocal changes for each individual she included in this memoir. She really went through a lot emotionally and physically and this book was so raw in telling her story.

This book gives such an eye opening glance into how multi-dimensional it is to be in the spotlight. It shows how someone can fall into something and not know how to get out of it. It was really insightful to hear how you think an actor's life is versus the reality of it all. Jennette's read of this audiobook made it 10x better as well.

I loved the story overall. I loved the cynicism of her outer world look. It's understandable as to why, but I also enjoyed the realistic approach to this. It's realistic as to how she's have to shove everything down and now that her mother isn't there to coach her and keep her shoving it, it ends up manifesting itself into her addictions and eating disorder. This ultimately affects her outward look on life. I enjoyed the writing very much and was deeply enthralled by it! It's very good in its foreshadow and the gaslighting that comes with abusive mothers who attempt to live vicariously through their daughters. My one issue about this book is that I wished she talked more about overcoming the false foundation she lived on. Coming to terms that her mother isn't an angel but a horrible person who abused her.

I’m Glad My Mom Died is such a powerful read. I listened to the audiobook, which is narrated by her and she does a fantastic job of it. The writing style is simple but brilliant and really affective - the way her emotions are described, her thinking at the time, and her age reflects as we listen to her grow up.

I didn’t know much about this going in so there are a lot of trigger warnings. They range from her mom showering her still at age 16 to encouraging anorexia in an 11 year old to calling her daughter a s1ut, disowning her and asking for money all in the same message.

I’m so happy she’s in a good place now 🥹
