I was already too old when the iCarly days of Nickelodeon came around and wasn't familiar with Jennette before listening to her book. I chose to listen on Audible as I always prefer to do so with memoirs and autobiographies, you just get something extra that reading from the page cannot give.

Jennette's account of her relationship with her mother was touching and shocking. I really felt for Jennette throughout the book, we have a child who absolutely adores her mother, and will do anything to please her Mum and keep her happy even if that means she herself is miserable. The abuse that Jennette suffered at the hands of her Mum is heartbreaking - and even now at 30 years old Jennette is dealing with the fallout from her mothers abuse.

I'm Glad My Mum Died is a difficult read / listen and is one that will stay with me for a while I think.

I would say if you have a history of eating disorders please take care if you choose to read this book as the second half is a graphic account of Jennette's relationship with food, exercise, Anorexia and Bulimia. There is also details of emotional and sexual abuse of a child, fatphobia, terminal illness, OCD, hoarding.
