I would have given this book 0 stars if possible. I hated it!!! I can see why they changed it for the movie. It was like reading a boring book about home repair.
A life-changing trip that anyone will enjoy reading about. --Skye W.
I read this when it first came out, and like most readers fell in love with Tuscany from her descriptions. It does not hold up as well on reread but I wonder how much of that is because there is so much more literature available about Italy, and because I've been there.
This book was boring. Pretentious. Drudgery to finish. The best parts were the humorous accounts of the remodel. I began to skip whole paragraphs because they were all the same. But it did make me want to eat Italian food.
I watch the movie 9 times a year , the 10th it’s normally in the background while I peacefully fall asleep . The book is very different to the movie however beautifully and lyrically written . There are gems of wisdom trickled throughout the book. I read some negative reviews before picking this up but by focusing on the writing and reading it in the voice of the actress in the movie I felt it was poetic. It has evocative language and is best read under the warm sun or of you’re looking for an escape into tranquility .
I loved this book. It made me want to move to Italy. Yesterday!
I enjoyed this book very much - but I actually preferred the movie version.
Loved this book! Made me want to go to Italy. Even better than the movie (which I also liked a lot).
Eh it was alright. No real story....did make me hungry because she talked about yummy Italian food
I read this book when it first came out and recently read it again. I really liked it both times. The descriptions of Italy and the food were great. Makes me want to buy a home there and restore it.
