Not sure which came first, but this was very similar to The Groomer. A pretty good tale of revenge.

3.5 felt too much like The Groomer for me and it just came off as torture porn. But I still love this author!

Jon Athan is one of my favorite extreme horror authors, and this was another foray into the dark and depraved. It wasn’t my favorite Athan splatterfest, but it was well-written and compelling. This is a story with heart, and it undoubtedly took a lot of courage to research and to write. Devastating and grimy, this one is NOT for beginners.

This book was so fucked up!!! I can’t imagine being in ANY of these situations and how inhumane grief becomes you. It was so awful and hard to read at times. Nothing really disturbs me anymore but this most definitely disturbed me. TW for anyone with kids, btw. It kind of reminded me a little bit of Season 1 of True Detective, minus Matthew McConaughey’s mumbling. The writing was easy to read and the pacing wasn’t too fast and wasn’t too slow; I didn’t get confused and I wasn’t bored. It was a solid read, albeit a little painful

This is my second Jon Athan novel and it was really entertaining but after his other book The Groomer, this one is a level down from that one but still it is really good! Twisted as hell and pretty gruesome but kept me interested and I listened to this in one sitting. I do like really dark and twisted stuff. Please look up trigger warnings for this before reading if you are easily disturbed.
