This is a book that’s definitely not for everyone, and I understand why there are one and two star reviews. There was a lot of graphic sexual scenes including abuse and rape, so that will definitely turn some readers away from this book. Personally, I thought this book was excellent if you can get past the sexual abuse. It was very different from anything I’ve ever read before.

Pierrot and Rose had awful childhoods in an orphanage, but found solace in each other and their creativity. Their chemistry just made me smile throughout the book, and I spent the sections where they lost each other wishing they would get back together. But their navigation of Montreal’s underworld of crime, sex, and drugs was still an exciting story.

Make no mistake, this is a very dark book. I’ve seen comparisons to The Night Circus, and it was somewhat similar to that in its creativity and atmosphere. But it was also very different to that, and even though I’m not sure that I’d recommend the book, I enjoyed it very much.

This book deals with a slew of troubling subject matters and is at times uncomfortable to read. However the writing and imagery was absolutely amazing and unlike most books written today.
To me, this book resembled “Normal People” if it was written during the Great Depression. It follows the struggles of two people and their journey back to one another in a way that is honest and upsetting.

This book, much like When We Lost Our Heads, is so, so fascinating that you want to tear through it to see what happens, but so well-written you have to read it at least twice to soak up all the amazing descriptions and turns of phrase. Honestly one of the best stories and books I've ever read or will ever read.

What a tale. What a beautiful visual of a not so lovely life. It was so good, all the characters were so interesting and unique given how many players were involved. And its #FuckSisterEloise til I die.
