Probably closer to 3.5 stars, but I'll round up. This was cute and maybe a little chaotic at times, but I'm generally okay with that in a fairytale.

Suuuuper cute prequel! Haywood is a darling! I forgot how much of a romantic the men in these books are! And how intense it got for Grassina so young. :(
There are some parts of this story that are a little silly, but I feel like they kind of had to do it that way in order to justify or set up some things in the original books, so I get why they did that.

One might think that the difference in Grassina’s personality between The Frog Princess and post-Once Upon a Curse would be caused by the absence of Haywood. One would be wrong. I honestly can’t reconcile the Grassina from this book to the Grassina who was reunited with Haywood. Where did all of her brains go? Chartreuse is also completely unlikeable in this book, which is strange because I absolutely love her in the others. This book is a good read but is inconsistent with the rest of the canon on a basic character level. Tbh, if you like the rest of the series there’s a good chance this one will be the exception

The Salamander Spell perfectly captures E.D. Baker's signature humor and whimsy. It's filled with fun characters we've met in previous books and new characters as well. It's a fun, fast, fluffy read that makes the perfect rainy day read. Baker's books always leave me smiling though the ending of this one is naturally bittersweet for anyone who's read the rest of the Frog Princess series.

I liked this book just as much as all the others in the series. It was just so fun and very sweet.
