Things I liked:
  • Anwen’s devotion to the orphans was so sweet. She was so great with them and loved them so much. I loved seeing their interactions.
  • Colin’s relationship with the boys was really sweet too. I liked that he got the chance to be responsible for someone besides himself.
Things I didn’t like:
  • I know Win was meant to be a villain but good grief he pissed me off. He was such an ass for so much of the book that it really irritated me.
  • I wished I understood Colin more. He definitely had more depth to him than I thought, but the book seemed very focused on Anwen and less on Colin.

Not the greatest romance, some heat was missing between the h and H. I even stopped reading before going back so was not invested in the story.

I'm such a big fan of Grace Burrowes's historical romance novels. She has a way that even if she writes a romance trope, she adds so much color and depth to her characters that the stories feel like so much more. I accidentally picked up the Windham Brides series with book 2 and even though this had a few cross-over characters I felt this read felt this read very well as a stand-alone. Anwen was sick as a child and even though she's fully recovered her family still treats ever cough and sniffle as life threatening. She's ready for a little freedom and finds it helping at a local orphanage where she champions former pickpockets and thieves. Lord Colin, originally from Scotland, is trying hard to fit in to London society and even though his original escort is not the man he thought he was, it lead him to Anwen. Even though they have a strong connection society is trying their hardest to pull them apart. When scandal threatens their happiness can Anwen and Colin find the solution to not only save the orphanage but lead them to their HEA? Multiple laugh out loud moments and lovable secondary characters that make me eager to read more in the series. Can't wait!

There are a lot of Windhams running around, and this series is about the Windham cousins. Sure people are mentioned but you do not need to have read about all those siblings finding love to enjoying this new series. Of course the more Windham the merrier and they are fun to read.

I liked Anwen. Not one thing wrong with her. A good head on her shoulder, sweet and she good with her orphans.

Colin, well nothing wrong with Colin either. Two really nice people who fitted each other perfectly! And they knew it and they went for it.

Now I am not saying everything was trouble free. The orphanage that Anwen helps out with is in trouble. Money is needed and she wont leave them on the street.

But between that these two fall in love. There is some drama. There is this asshat. And then they live happily ever after.

I enjoyed it, and the next one looks to be really good. I am a sucker for a Duke book.

The book did not start off great. I am a huge fan of the author and have read all of the proceeding and connecting books, but this one took me a while to get into. So after you fumble around in the first 20% of the book everything evens out and it becomes an enjoyable and quick read.

Such a cute story. It was refreshing to see all the problems/conflict be with external issues rather than communication between Anwen and Colin. Too often authors have their characters make ridiculous choices just so their book has some conflict. If you can't let your character be a realistic human then you have a crap character or you are just terrible at writing.
