Another home run! This time Grafton carefully introduces two mysteries at once. The pacing of the main plot in this one is a little different, but that just serves to keep the series interesting. Kinsey’s strong suit is making each interaction memorable, each step in the investigation its own little story.

Fun quick little read!
I'm reading these for the second time after reading them maybe 15 years ago and I am really enjoying them. This is a good mystery with an interesting plot. These are sort of like adult Nancy Drews if Nancy was less wholesome and wasn't exceptionally good at 8 million hobbies but more like a normal person.
This was written in the 80s and the constant description of fat people negatively did really bug me. It's like she has to mention how fat they are several times and imply how gross it is - and there are definitely more fat people as "bad" characters too, which is annoying. There's also a lot of mentions of Kinsey working out in the gym in this one, which is a bit tedious. It does read like the author putting her own obsession with her weight into the book. There are also some not great references to mental health problems, however they aren't as bad as I expected, given the date of publication.
I generally feel these books end very abruptly once the mystery is solved, and this is no exception.
I'm picking at it though, the reading experience is generally fun and positive and I'm always wanting to get back to the book.
