Kinsey has started a job from Bobby Callahan who has lost some of his memory after a car accident that he thinks someone caused to kill him. After he hires Kinsey he is killed in a car accident. She decides that it is fishy and continues the case and finding the killer. I am not totally sold on this series of books but with this one it has gotten better. Kinsey is growing on me.

I know I'm way late to the game on this series, but I'm happy to be here now. I liked this book because she switched things up. We found out right at the beginning who died, and then we go back to when Kinsey first met the victim and watch as she's piecing together the puzzle. I will admit that I had correct suspicions in this one and that doesn't usually happen with me and mysteries. I kind of had the bad guy pegged from the beginning, but not in the way or for the reason I thought.
Anyway, if you haven't read A and B, then why are you here at C? :) Go back and start at the beginning.

The story is an investigation Kinsey Millhone stumbles upon as she recovers her body through physio from the wounds of her last investigation. Bodies are broken and damaged throughout the story, hiding the clues needed to solve the case and heal.
Kinsey is a better developed character in this book: Her tone remains guarded, but as a narrator she’s no longer trying to convince us of who she is, she’s just being her sassy, snarky, but caring self.
It feels like a plot to get us to the next thing. A good but solid b-plot.

Plot A was believable and moving. Kinsey's dedication to find and give herself and Glen closure, to give sense to Bobby's murder is compelling and very readable. It aged with grace and can be read for what it is a mystery set in the mid to late eighties.
Plot B was predictable and is the part I remembered of the novel. I read Kinsey's Alphabet mysteries in the mid 1990's. I did figure out who the culprit was eventually. Still the twists and turns of plot A, the secondary characters, especially Glen, Bobby and the return of Jonah for a cameo made this a worth while reread.

This is the first Alphabet book that I really connected with Kinsey on a personal level. She felt cold and detached in the previous two books, and it was nice to see her care for someone other than herself.
