A very interesting read. I need to reread this again when I’m in the right mindset for it. Not sure what I was expecting but this was not it. Intriguing.

Beautifully written. Jess Kidd had a way of making the characters come to life. The fact that this is based on a true story makes it even more compelling. This book pulls you in and keeps you reading, especially the second half of the book. I couldn’t put it down today and read the second half of the book in one day. I will definitely be reading more by this author.

I just wasn't in the right headspace for this book. I might give it another try later.

The 3rd person narration was so disinterested and emotionless, I couldn’t help but read in monotone. It felt like the narrator didn’t care about the story so why should I?

i did enjoy this book, honestly had some great parts and i love historical fiction and parallels through time - but it could’ve been so much more

the whole bullebak/bunyip thing could’ve have been explored more and the two kids’ connection never really got anywhere

it might just be me but i couldn’t really feel the pace, i was waiting and waiting until i reached the end

nonetheless i love mayken and all the heartfelt relationships she creates and  it’s super cool how it’s based off of a real story
