Much easier to follow than the first book, although that may be because I kind of gave up on trying

took me a while to get into this one esp with the change of character focus but this was rly fun and the end has me super intrigued to see where the next book goes! i can’t say i 100% get everything that’s going on bc there is just so much to keep track of but i’m still enjoying my time reading these books

I liked it better than the first one by far. Had to start taking notes on all the things that relate to es h other but that has actually helped me see how the world is connected and why all these things are so caught up in the events. Still struggling with the forced flashbacks although I did like this “narrator’s” banter with the reader. I kept finding myself more interested in what was going on in the “present” over the flashbacks. Ready to dive into book 3 and see who’s narrating this time!

Book 2 of 5! This continues to be epic. But the characters and plot are having a hard time bearing up under the weight of the ungainly backstory, mythology, and worldbuilding.

First of all, wtf just happened!

And Jenn, if you read this, you need to dedicate at least 50 pages worth of recap?

Why? Because you're letting us deal with humans, witches, vampires, wizards, emperors, god kings, gods, dragons. Wtf!

That being said, what a ride this has been. Am so glad this isn't just Kihrin's story anymore. And I want this epic to go on and on. I'm not going to put spoilers in here and there's no way I'd do enough justice in a review like this. Just know that if you're fan of epic fantasy, this is the one for you.

missed Kihrin but I love Janel. when I first read this the whole Joratese gender thing was SO confusing but I was like "okay it's okay I don't understand just accept it and move on" and then by the time I got to the third or fourth book I had a sudden epiphany and it all made sense
