I'm ambivalent. 3 or 4? I'll give it four.

The book started out slow for me. But after Lotto started writing plays it became compelling for me. There are still some mysteries that may warrant a second reading, although I don't know if I'll ever read it again.

I don't want to reveal much about the plot. Just read it and see what you think.

Loved the writing but the vibes were the same as The Secret History (not the same story....just feelings) and I didn't like that book and sources told me it didn't really change in tone.  Will pick up other books by Groff.

Really didn't like either of the main characters and didn't enjoy either of their perspectives. They were both just awful!
The author has a lovely tone of voice/writing style though and I would read other books of hers despite not loving this.

I almost quit reading in the first half because the narration didn't seem to be going anywhere.  I kept going because a friend raved about the book, especially the change in perspective in the second half.  She was right that the second half was much more interesting. I admire what Groff pulled off as a writer, but I still don't count this as one of my favorites.

Pretentious, fluffy language that tried too hard, and a plot that really went nowhere? Had a lot of potential but just felt really flat throughout.

I have so many thoughts and feelings about this book. Lauren Groff is so talented, it’s crazy. I will have to re-read this again someday. Loved
