I received this in my Book of the Month box for April. It does not get released until the end of May 2021.
I have been trying to expand the genres that I read and when I saw that this was a thriller written by a Texas author- I was in!

This book is about a family that moves to East Texas from Chicago. The main character- Sophie- becomes obsessed with a socialite that comes from old money in the town. The beginning of the book has some flashbacks to set the story and set up the characters.
I wasn't sure where the story was going for the first 200 pages. There were some weird things happening between the main character and this group of wealthy stay-at-home moms- The Hunting Wives, but no murder had happened yet. Sophie is obsessed with the main woman who runs the group and there is a lot of sexual tension between the two. There is one scene where the tension breaks, but it is just to hush up Sophie because she knows too much.
In the end, there are two murders and Sophie gets framed for them by the mom of the boyfriend of the young girl that dies. There was a good twist on who the murderer was- but it wasn't as "thrilling" as I was expecting. Most of the book focused on the relationships between Sophie and the Hunting Wives.

Overall, I enjoyed the book- I read it in a day because I wanted to know what happened in the end. It was well written and I was invested in the story and I wanted Sophie's (the MC) name to be cleared.
