The Hunting Wives had a slow start as it really sets the tone for the plot twists and reveals towards the end. Backstabbing, snooty, and cold-blooded housewives are my shit but at the same time, this kind of character annoys the hell out of me lol Like I hate how they know they're doing something stupid and they know the consequences, but they still do it ?? And then go all BOO HOO WOE IS ME when the said consequence happens ??

It wasn't what I was expecting, but it was a fun ride getting albeit just an OKAY ending. The whole WHODUNIT mystery had me at the edge of my seat, not gonna lie. But the payoff was just not THAT satisfying to me.

Warning though: If you don't like reading about 30+ y/o ladies getting it on with 18 y/o (passed off as "legal" since the age of consent in that state is 17)

If you want to get through this book faster, listen to the audiobook!

Oh man. This one had so many mixed reviews and I totally understand why. This was the June pick for a thriller book club I'm a part of and I was excited to finally get it off my TBR shelf. I can't say that I hated the book, but I definitely didn't love it.

The Hunting Wives is the story of a bunch of housewives in Georgia who make the cast of Mean Girls look like saints. Sophie, who grew up in the area but only recently moved back, is so desperate to become a part of their group, it might just ruin her life.

Okay, this book was super stressful mostly because the main character was an absolute moron. All of the characters were highly unlikeable but Sophie really takes the cake. She gets herself into so many terrible situations that could have been completely avoided BY JUST GOING HOME. Isn't the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results? She's clearly insane. The first half is pretty slow and frustrating, as it's largely focused on Sophie's desperate attempts to fit in, but the second half really takes off.

I will say, I definitely didn't see the twist at the end coming. There were a lot of red herrings trying to throw you off as to who the villain of the story really is, and looking back knowing what I know now, some of them made no sense and were definitely just in there for the sake of throwing the reader off course.
I don't really know if I'd actually recommend this to anyone, but if you're looking for a mindless read with a desperate housewives vibe, this one might be for you. That being said, I highly recommend researching the content warnings prior to reading because it is definitely not for everyone.

This book was not it y’all. The first half was so incredibly slow and boring. The death that’s mentioned in the synopsis doesn’t even happen until halfway through the book. The MC is being framed for murder but she obviously didn’t do it. The last 50-60 pages of the book were the most interesting, fast paced part and the reveal of who the actual murderer was did surprise me a bit, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the rest of the book.

Severely unlikable characters, truly I didn’t care anything for any of these characters. Excessive drinking for no reason, drugging of characters that was never fully explained, completely unnecessary and persistent sex with high school teenagers. 40 year old women having sex with high school boys is not something that is necessary for a thriller book and not something I’m at all interested in reading about.

I most likely would have stopped reading this one if it wasn’t for a Bookclub that I want to attend the meeting. The ending did end up being mostly interesting, but overall this book was a big no for me.

This book was a wild ride! I wanted to hate it, but I just couldn't stop reading it. It was so messed up with the adult/minor relationships, cheating, and drugs. Yet, I couldn't get enough. The Hunting Wives are a group of conniving bitches and I could understand the allure of getting in with these rich women, but Sophie also took it to a whole other level with it as well.

If you love a crazy dramatic thriller then definitely pick this up, it's disgusting, crazy, and THRILLING!

I toyed between a 4 and a 5 rating for this one because it had some problematic issues in it. Sophie was an unreliable narrator and honestly, pretty annoying. She made terrible decisions and I just wanted to ask every one of the wives why it was so hard to resist getting wasted every night. Also I didn't love the whole underaged love story but they did mention that 17 is not considered underaged in Texas.

Overall I rated it a 4.5 because I devoured this book in 24 hours and truly could not put it down. It had so many twists and turns and kept me on my toes. I would think that I had figured it out and then another twist would come and I would doubt my original thoughts. Also just have to add that Graham seems like a complete gem and I feel bad for him.
