This book was like watching a train wreck. I didn't like any of the characters. But the suspect was spot on. And it was super unbelievable .

This was my first May Cobb book and I was initially drawn to the gorgeous book cover but WOW, I was thoroughly impressed with the story! This kinda reminded me A LOT of the ABC show, 'Desperate Housewives' which was one of my faves.

"The Hunting Wives" is a suspenseful and seductive thriller set in the affluent community of Mapleton, Texas. AKA, Idyllic Small Town, U.S.A. The novel follows Sophie O'Neill as she leaves behind a bustling life in Chicago for a quieter existence in Texas, only to find herself entangled with a glamorous clique called the Hunting Wives. Led by the charismatic Margot Banks, this group indulges in wild, risky behavior that escalates from target shooting in the woods to much darker & even sinister activities.

As Sophie gets drawn deeper into the group's inner circle, her fascination with Margot turns obsessive, blurring the lines between friendship and attraction. This obsession catalyzes a series of events that spiral out of control, leading to a murder that shocks the community. The plot thickens as secrets unravel, revealing the dark underbelly of Mapleton's elite, with Sophie at the center of it all.

Cobb crafts a narrative filled with tension, sensuality, and betrayal, successfully keeping the reader on edge. The novel critiques suburban ennui and the destructive nature of desire through its detailed character explorations and vivid setting descriptions. However, some readers might find the resolution slightly predictable, and the motivations of secondary characters could have been developed more thoroughly.

Overall though, this is an engaging read that mixes elements of thriller and drama, ideal for those who enjoy stories about the complexities of female friendships and the dangerous allure of forbidden desires. A cautionary tale about how quickly the veneer of perfection can shatter when dark impulses are unleashed.

This book was absolutely entertaining and I'm glad I read it but I have a couple issues.

1) it was very slow and there were parts that were really boring.
2) it was mostly predictable. I didn't know who did it but everything else you could see coming from a mile away.
3) I personally didn't like most of the characters. In fact, I like the side characters of Graham and Jack the most.

Hmm. I read this book because I had seen so many good reviews, however it was not for me haha.

I found the main character to be pretty unlikable, and the twist wasn’t that shocking to me, and the plot seemed unnecessarily dark. I can understand why people enjoy this book, but again, not for me.

Also - RIP to these women’s livers because WOW i think 75% of this book was about how much they drank at all hours of the day haha

40 year old women making out with kids is not something I like to read about. JAIL for that! Also cheating irks me out SO much. Just leave your partner, how hard is it? The obsession and desperation the fmc had were crazy, couldn’t stand it.
