As with her other fantasy trilogys, the author hit the second-book slump. I was frustrated by how so many of my fave characters were separated, and especially annoyed by Grey and Lia Mara
who are full grown adults but spent 75% of the book not speaking to each other! They are full monarchs doing a miscommunication trope! And their reuniting convo was fully off-page

Will read the third book, hoping for a happy ending with Jax and Tycho.

There is still so much to resolve!! Enjoyed it again, I slowed down reading near the end because I didn't want to be at the end again. Good development of stories and relationships. Anxious for the next one!!!!!!! (Alek is a pr*ck)

Carving Shadows into Gold is book two in the Forging Silver into Stars series. This book finds Jax, Tycho, and Jax split up as danger and scraver attacks increase across the realm. I found this book to be a lot slower than the first book. Parts felt repetitive, and overall there just wasn't a ton that happened for the length of the book. The characters definitely need to learn to communicate a bit more, and Callyn needs a better love interest than Alek! I still loved the main characters and thought the world building was really well done. I'm definitely interested in seeing where this series will go in book three.
