I thought that I was just going to read this in between the other two books that I am working on right now, but I ended up bingeing it over the last three or so days. The writing is really good and Quinn sets up her scenes really well so that you can see where she is clearly in your mind. I think that she does a great job of showing what it is like to have to compartmentalize in order to be able to do a difficult and taxing job.

I really enjoyed this and I really liked the ending.

The author did a beautiful job at blending fiction and facts. I enjoyed reading about Mila, she was such a bad ass. And I have to admit, the ending really surprised me! I got kind of stagnant about 80% into it because I felt like I knew how it would end….nope!! I was pleasantly surprised. Do yourselves a favor and don’t research ANYTHING about Mila until you finish this book!

The book did not make me sympathetic towards Russias causes in the current war in Ukraine, but it did give some insight on the type of people they are and how very different they operate than Americans. Granted, this was over 50 years ago but the culture is still similar.

One of the downsides for me was there was alot of military terminology used that went over my head. I wished she would’ve used a little more layman’s terms when it came to those descriptions so I could follow along more easily.

This was my first Katie Quinn book but I’ll be reading more in the future.
