A real mail-order mystery, with a case of mistaken identity, fraud, and a lot of interesting characters... (Namely, the Sailor Skeeter and his wife... Man those two are nuts.)

This has been my least favorite of the ones I’ve reread. More danger, but absolutely no satisfaction with the ending. And a whole chapter if a football game. Did quarterbacks also punt and kick field goals in the 30s?

Did not need the play by play of the football game.

I love that ned plays every position on the football team. He really seems like he’d be a kicker though. Also Nancy is threaten like a million times in this book.

More recycling! Nancy has a double again, except this time the double is in name, not in appearance. After a series of events that gets a bag of mail stolen, Nancy finds out that one of those stolen letters was for her, from a law firm in Britain. Her lawyer dad manages to get a copy of the letter from the firm, and though it is a really exciting letter about getting a huge inheritance, it is for a different Nancy Drew — who conveniently happens to be in the River Heights area just now.

4 stars for the story, minus 1 for not aging well: privilege, race, women, etc. - all things that went over my head when I read these as a young pre-teen and am acutely aware of now! I still couldn't put it down, despite the cringe-y bits.

Book 8 was very quick and easy to read. The story was interesting as well.
