I felt that the book was robotic and lacked feelings.
I understand the fact that he was in a rush.
I loved the book anyway

A really beautiful book. Read like a long, stream-of-consciousness essay -- it was so well-structured, polished, revised, engineered for maximal impact. Of course, in a way, this may have made it feel less transcendent.

I sobbed so much reading the ending of this book, and the epilogue in particular. I highlighted so many parts.
Took me back to my own health scare and major surgery in 2022 when I was 31. My outcome was different from his, but lots of the experiences of being a patient rang extremely true.
I felt he was a bit preachy and name-droppy at times (and didn’t examine how much privilege he had to go to all these Ivies casually and find himself via different expensive educational programs), but I still found this book extremely profound and emotional.

Tbh kylie and I listened to this on the road trip and I paid attention about 60% of the time. I’ll probably reread it. The part I paid most attention to was the epilogue by his wife. Her voice was endearing and expanded my opinions on marriage a bit.
