I can't state here how much I enjoyed this book. It took me several months to read because of how often I would go back to re-read my favourite bits, and pause to listen to albums or watch videos and performances that Geffen described.

During the months I was savouring this book, I also came across an essay that Sasha Geffen wrote to accompany the LaBelle album, "Night birds," and it is now my goal to read anything they have ever written about music and/or queer history.

The topic is pretty specifically and perfectly up my alley, but I was very happy to find it was so well executed.

It had some interesting history in it. But it was mostly just music analysis, and I didn’t care for it.

a book that informs and inspires my research and drives me to do better talking about the thing that heals us: pop music and queerness.
