I kinda overhyped this book to myself a lil bit. Also, due to this being Sullivan's longest book, a beast on 700+ pages, I expected more.
Not gonna lie I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed Nolyn and Farilane but only because I am not good with keeping up with so many time skips. However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that the story of Esrahaddon was *chef’s kiss* The last handful of chapters were heavyyyy. Let it be known, I love hating Mawyndule. The last chapter had me laying in bed feeling a huge void in my heart.
Michael has done it again, with yet another fantastic book from the world of Elan. I absolutely loved Esrahaddon! The story telling, character building, Easter eggs, and the writing were amazing as usual. This has become one of my favorite books in the series. If you have been asleep for these books, I urge you to read all the Riyria and Legends books as well. You will not be disappointed
The whole Rise and Fall has been so amazing.
Esra of Hadden made me wept from all the tragedies happening. He knows how to destroy the souls of his main characters and that’s why I love it.

Wow. Still my favorite fantasy world. So many amazing characters across all of its history. Perhaps it's time to go back to the 'beginning'.

Note: This is the 3rd and final book in the Rise and the Fall trilogy and the 9th book of Sullivan’s catalog if you are reading in chronological order so this will not be an in-depth review.
After finding Age of Myth on my local public library shelves by accident, reading it, and then systematically reading all the consecutive ones that have been released (I started reading in chronological order as that was the first one I found and then just keep reading that way as Sullivan has said it wouldn’t affect the overarching story if I was to do that instead of publication order.), I was able to pick up the newest release, Esrahaddon, when it was released in physical form (I don’t really like e-books so I try to avoid them and only read them as a last resort.). This book tells the back story of Esrahaddon, a character that I have come to understand from talking to people who have read more of Sullivan’s books is an important character that we meet in other books. As previously mentioned, I haven’t read those books, so this was an introduction to Esrahaddon rather than a background, but either way I really enjoyed this book and character and am excited to see him more in later books.
My favorite thing about this book is the world-building he was able to do within it to not only wrap up previous books as it is the last book in this portion of the series, but also to set up his books that come later. I really like the direction he is taking the story as although it is a story that I have seen elements of before, as you can’t really write a book in this genre without that happening, he does it a way that feels new and makes me excited to keep reading, and as I read a lot of books within this genre, that’s a big deal for me.
A big selling point for this book was the characters, especially our main character Esrahaddon. I found him super funny, and he made me laugh out loud so many times that my mom asked me what I was laughing at. This will probably sound weird, but it was almost like Sullivan read my mind and realized exactly what I believe an all-powerful wizard would be like, and then crafted Esrahaddon to fit that mold, and over the course of this book, there were multiple occasions where I was stunned with how accurate he made him to the picture that I had crafted in my mind. Esrahaddon wasn’t the only character I liked as I loved Prince Nevrik and Jerish too, and the relationship that develops between these three characters was my absolute favorite thing, it quite literally made the book for me.
All in all, this book did a great job of bridging the gap between the new novels that Sullivan has been putting out and the ones that already existed. I am so excited to read the Riyria books now and I really hope that he does what his wife, Robin, hinted at in the afterword, and writes post-Riyria books too because I will read those as well. I mean, I have a lot of favorite authors as I am a voracious reader, but Michael J. Sullivan secured his place on that list with this installment as this is my current #1 read for the year. 5 stars!!!!!!!!!! I loved It!!!!!!!!!!!!
