If I should be buried with any single thing at the end of this life, let it be this.

“No story has power, nor will it last, unless we feel in ourselves that it is true and true of us”.
I love Steinbeck’s writing. So descriptive and timeless, and just as likely to make you laugh as make you cry

1) I love Steinbeck's voice, writing style, and bones of this story. I can see why this book is considered one of the great American novels.

2) This book felt far longer than it needed to be. It almost felt like he was trying too hard to achieve something epic, and that there is a bit too much flesh on the aforementioned bones.

3) The characters are well-written, but the dialogue felt...off. Much of it didn't feel quite real to me.

4) I appreciate how the questions of good and evil, justice and mercy are explored through story, but it felt a little too on-the-nose to me.

5) LOTS of beautiful quotes throughout!

I can't truthfully say I liked it, but it was more than just okay, so 2.5 stars, really.
