One of the craziest books I’ve ever read. There’s was absolutely no way I could have predicted how it was going to end.

I was disappointed.
Sometimes I don’t know why I wrestle to the end of a terrible book. Maybe I’m a completionist, or just masochistic?
This one was painful. It isn’t a haunted house novel so much as a possessed puppet novel, a little like a demented version of Toy Story. But it’s never expressly scary… the author spends too much time explaining the minutiae of action in each scene for the reader to generate any real emotion. Even when he tries to get gross and gory, it just feels forced.
The writing, overall, is painfully weak, the characters gratingly immature and stupid, and the dialogue is cringey at best. In short, my eyes are tired from rolling them so hard.
This one’s going in the trade-in box, stat.

This story was a spooky, tense, and an emotional rollercoaster. As an eldest daughter, I see myself so much in Louise, with her need to be the 'responsible one' and furthermore being unintentionally hard on or judgemental of others. At first, I despised Mark and couldn't fathom what in the world his problem was with Louise. He was so combative with her from the jump when she was trying so hard to keep things civil, and I found myself dismissing him out of hand just like Louise did. I ended up loving him as much as Louise by the end, going from this annoying asshole to this wholly sympathetic person who is so clearly shaped by his experiences.
Regarding the spooks and scares, this story is spooky and tense in the best way. Pupkin is terrifying, but also a little bit ridiculous (kakawewe!! Lol). His little war cry always broke the tension for me however I think this story is so good because it allows itself to feel a little camp, it is a story about a haunted puppet after all. However when the book wants to be scary, it achieves that flawlessly. There was the perfect amount of tension and dread throughout and I was utterly hooked on the story. There was never a slow or dull moment. Every dialogue between characters was so engaging and relevant, no fluff to be found.
I really felt an emotional connection to Louise and Mark. As an eldest daughter with aging parents, it hit me hard when Louise spirals as she's confronted with her parents death and it hit me hard again at the end when she lives the reality of living the rest of her life with her parents gone. I found myself crying several times as I read along.
All in all this story is fantastic and I highly, highly, highly recommend!!!

This book grabbed me like a homicidal hand puppet and didn’t let go. The ending felt a *little* rushed, but the ride was so much fun I didn’t mind.
