I could not stand the main character. She is someone I wouldn’t give the time of day to irl and definitely not spending my time reading about her
Definitely not my favorite Hendrix book. (See: My Best Friend’s Exorcism, We Sold Our Souls, and The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires). The sibling conflict felt overblown and fake. The puppets didn’t do much for me (except for Mark’s time in the puppet troupe). And the ending was just too predictable. But still in Hendrix’s funny/scary style, so enjoyable overall.
Hey, so this was actually insane!
And I think I loved it. The perfect balance of campy, unsettling horror and a meaningful commentary on grief, family, and the value we place on possessions (emphasis on the “possess”). I’ll never not laugh about the War on Terror puppet show scene

*Audiobook*
I can’t believe I forgot to write a review! Here it is, don’t worry.
This audiobook felt like it took forever, but I can’t say I didn’t look forward to my commute because of it. Weird shit happens. Kinda hard to get the full grasp in listening format, but even yet, this book was funny, scary, and disturbing all at once.
Not like how I imagined it at all, but I quite liked it. 4 stars because the main character annoyed me. She just couldn’t take any accountability for her actions. The brother was annoying at times too.
Overall though, the plot twists were solid and we love a good repressed memory moment.
