Neely Crenshaw was a high school All American quarterback for the Messina Spartans and was coached under the legendary Coach Eddie Rake.  Fifteen years have gone by since Neely’s glory days and he has returned to Messina to bury Coach Rake.  As former football players sit in the bleachers telling stories, they are also waiting for the news to arrive of the Coach’s passing.

This is not a legal thriller but a book about football.  It is well-told and fast-paced.  A good, quick  read.

An interesting book. Not much plot depth, but interesting characters. A good, short read. Not your typical Grisham novel (this coming from someone who has now read to Grisham novels).

This was not the most exciting Grisham book, but it did have tension and suspense. The characters were well written and believable.

this book was ok. it had too much detail in the football games, and bc i do not know anything abt football, it just seemed incredibly uninteresting for half of the book, where the detail of a game took place.
other than that, it was okay. the storytelling was nice and there was a clear plot. i liked when the author was writing about the story of the characters-
i just basically thought everything was okay other than the football part (which was half the book

The audiobook was well-read - I especially appreciated the play-by-play narration during the '87 Title game. There's just something about a small town legend and the people whose lives he impacted that makes we want to read a story like this over and over again.
