The art is this manga is extraordinarily beautiful and detailed. I also really love the separate little tales that form one big overlapping story. This happens a lot in mangas, however, this one takes a really interesting and dark twist with it.

4.5 stars. I keep getting surprised by the amount of compassion these characters show, particularly Owner when he steps in all intense then asks kindly for something and then gets all dark out of nowhere. But, the character that caught my eye this volume was Spider, he just keeps growing on me with every volume. The way he showed compassion to Butterfly really got to me. Butterfly already is a character I have a soft spot and itms not changing. Overall it was really nice to see more depth and development in both Butterfly and Spider. And I can’t wait to see more of Owner because his character is so compelling and perplexing.

I KNOW Butterfly did not get snatched by another being

So we meet a guest who’s so loved she grows flowers out of her mouth. Butterfly tried to get to secret from her but ended up getting taken by the monster inside of her.

Spider meets a doctor of sorts named Kichizou.

“But plants have thoughts and feelings too.”

The monster that took Butterfly used to serve owner. The Monster is named Maple. It’s angry Owner ditched them so they’re trying to take both Butterfly and Spider. They don’t understand why Owner doesn’t kill his guests and keeps only their secrets.

Maple is excited to see Owner but I can’t say Owner is reciprocating the same energy.

... Owner straight up dropkicked Maple I-

Now they’re acting all sweet kindly asking “give them back” Owner’s not messing around. Owner is PISSED.

“If you want to test them, that’s fine. I’ll allow it. That said, you have no right to judge their way of life. You think too highly of yourself.”

Maple seems infatuated with Owner. Saying that they love Owner’s mercilessness.

Owner talks about how when he first saw Spider and Butterfly, he pitied them. They didn’t throw tantrums like Maple to get what they want.

The Bone Monk pieced together that Owner is only running the inn for Spider and Butterfly.

Currently: I’m emo because the spirit of the cherry tree pities Butterfly because his existence was a coincidence, he has no purpose. But the spirit wants Spider to gather what it could find of Butterfly.

“But, would you gather him together? Please, could you give him a meaning for being?”

and there’s a panel of butterfly’s body taking shape...

the art for the Eighth Enigma page is STUNNING. the way Butterfly is built into the cherry tree, how the trunk looks like is long hair and how he’s surrounded by flowers and butterflies, holding skulls.

Spider first gathered Butterfly’s hand. He’s explaining that he simply just wanted the girl to open her heart to him.

I’m SO UPSET. When they asked Butterfly what kind of monster he was and he just smiled and said,

“A monster who has fallen into despair.”

my heart’s broken :)

Owner welcoming then back home... it’s too late for this I’m emo

the fact that it took Butterfly a while to recover and wouldn’t even talk... don’t talk to to me

I am also emo at that Spider flashback where he broke down in tears because he was having an existential crisis when a guest asked for his name. He didn’t even have a name or a title nothing to call his own.
