Moderate: Death, Death of parent
A unique take on the mother/daughter relationship. Atwood's writing style is engrossing and detailed.
But it moved through life at a blistering pace. It's a bit mad to expect to tell a satisfying story encompassing several decades of life in 30 pages.
And I think she was far too generous with the mother, who literally drove her child away with her witchiness. And then far too harsh on the daughter, who asked reasonable questions and tried to enforce reasonable boundaries. Perhaps betraying Atwood's own bias as woman now in her 80s.
It's certainly worth a read, however, and may reignite my interest in Atwood after bouncing off Handmaid's Tale.

This was a really charming short story about complex family dynamics and teenage growing pains. It was also a story full of magic... or was it?
A delicious little delight of a read.

Great novella. Atwood, as expected, does a wonderful job interweaving a story with modern issues in an enjoyable way

"Who says you need eyes for seeing?"
Quick and entertaining read.
The pages flew by with relatable content as both a mother and a daughter. The only disappointing part of this short story was how the ending felt rushed and unnecessarily aggressive.
