Short story about a girl who grows up with a mother that does witchy type things. Nothings really proven to actually be witchy though IMO. Just kind of meh
My Evil Mother by Margaret Atwood
If you’re looking for an easy yet entertaining story to read in one sitting, then this is definitely the one for you (also it is on kindle unlimited!) The only book I’ve read by Margaret Atwood is The Handmaid’s Tale, so when I got into this story I wasn’t expecting it to be as funny as it was. The strength of it was how it balanced being comedic with also being quite sweet as well, in a strange unusual way that only story’s about witches can be. The witchy-ness of it (I have no idea if that’s even a word) reminds me of Terry Pratchett’s novel Wintersmith.
The characters are quite complex and it’s admirable how Atwood can achieve so much development and character building in such a short space of time. It only proves that you don’t need to info-dump or have lengthy descriptions to be a good writer. Sometimes simple is best! Additionally, this book proves how flexible of a writer Margaret Atwood is, and it makes me want to read more of her work. I definitely recommend if you’re looking for something short and fun.
