I must admit I was very surprised at how good this was. A crazy-ass plotline involving incredibly fun and off-the-wall characters is always a winner. But when you spice it up with ingredients such as humor, gore, and pathos, you know you are in for a real treat. Kick-ass is a delightful book that deserves every iota of hype it has received.

I love kick ass so much, it's so awesome.
Does anyone know what order the books go in??

Anyways- I saw the movie before I read the book, and it's pretty spot on. I got into kick ass because of Chloë Grace Moretz (queen).
The ending was a bit rushed though... I hate to say that I prefer the way the movie ended but it's true.
Also, I don't really like the art in this book. That's probably just me being a picky artist but I thought it was low quality. I've definitely seen other graphic novels with way better art.

Gotta get the next book ASAP!

At first, I was not incredibly impressed by this book. I read it in one sitting and found it a little fast. I liked the art (beautiful colours, lots of detail) and the plot was consistent. I didn't like that it seemed to be trying to shock the reader (very bloody, Hit-Girl is only 10, very violent) but then it does seem, in it's own way, more realistic than the p.c., toned-down comics produced by the major companies. As I thought about the book again today (before writing this review), I realised that it was incredibly well-written as all the plot details fall in place seamlessly without ever seeming too cliché. The transitions between different issues don't stand out at all so it is really built like a single story. Overall, I enjoyed reading it and was entertained and have come to respect this graphic novel more as I think about the plot details.
I haven't seen the film but I understand that the ending is different. I really liked the ending of this graphic novel (especially the twist with Big Daddy) which I feel is more poignant and less cliché. The idea of Hit Girl being adopted by the main character's family (in the film) is nice but once again a little more cliché and maybe a little less realistic than her returning to live with her mother.

Mark Millar writes the most deliciously twisted plot lines of anyone in the graphic novel industry. Unfortunately, I didn't think this one was twisted enough, even though it features a 12 year old mass murderer...
