A classic noir story that keep the tension tight and the character's interesting and deceptively simple. Jame M. Cain's writing fits super well with the hard-boiled crime films made at the time of the novel's writing and the film it eventually became. Rapid speech, innuendos that could go unnoticed until you give the material a second look, and morals that are as grey as old celluloid. A quick and gut-punching read.

A noir classic: lean, mean, and a third thing. (Clean? Not especially.) Have read it a couple of times before and it still feels fresh.

this was definitely written for men. I was really hoping that Phyllis would screw him over and have a power play of some kind, but instead we both just had a suicide pact. that’s so boring.

A very short review for a short novel.

This was quite a good beach read...I'm glad I read it and enjoyed it quite a bit. I read it while on vacation, and have since read another and am now into another novel. I say this because I can now only remember vague details of Double Indemnity :)
So I guess it really doesn't have that lasting impression on me. I did enjoy the quick read at the time, though!
