This was a good read. Not like a lot of other stuff I've read recently. There is a racist character that hasn't aged well, but beyond that this reads like a fairly contemporary piece of fiction, I'd say. There's a strong emphasis on the occult and the small town setting keeps character volume limited and allows for the author to flesh out many relationships within it. It's a fairly predictable text but where it's less predictable, the twists actually worked quite well for me. I don't know if I'll read any others by this author but this was a pleasant read (and timid on the horror front).
