Creative, however not as good as his [b:Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library|16054808|Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library|Chris Grabenstein|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1379335670s/16054808.jpg|21839952], so there was a little disappointment there. Also I felt like the ending was rushed and maybe too convenient. However, it was still an entertaining read.

This is a great book, the Authors love of classic literature shows through in his ability to bring the characters to life!!!

The main character Billy is living with his mom for the summer while she writes her dissertation. He's not thrilled about a summer in a cottage with no TV! His parents are also clearly having martial problems & Billy is not sure how to help them reconnect. Through imagination, magic & some pie he's able to make his summer more bearable.

This book has so many great references to some extraordinary characters from Robin Hood to Tom Sawyer! Billy & his friend Walter name drop book titles & characters throughout the entire book. However, as much as I wanted to love this book - I felt as though it dragged on. I never felt connected to Billy or any beloved characters from the other books. They were very flat & cartoonish. I think several of my students would love Billy antics and allusions to Holes & sword fighting Musketeers but it just wasn't for me.

Billy is not looking forward to spending the summer at the lake, in the cabin his mother rented from her colleague Dr. Libris. His mother is working on her dissertation and his father is staying in the city. There is no TV or video games and it is looking to be a long, lonely summer. With nothing else to do, Billy starts a search for the key that unlocks Dr. Libris's cabinet of books. It is when he finds it and starts reading that something truly amazing happens. The characters he reads are brought to life on the island in the lake. As characters from Greek mythology, Robin Hood, The Three Musketeers, and more draw him into their stories, Billy and his new friend Walter must figure out ways to adjust the outcomes. This is a fun adventure with some truly hilarious moments, and may even entice readers into reading some of the classics mentioned in the story. Recommended for grades 3-6.

Super fun. The kids loved it which is really all that matters. Sad there was so little action for the girls in the story, but overall a great story premise.

Such a great and cute cute book!! ADORED it. If you are a book lover, and ever dreamed about the characters in your favorite books coming to life, this book was written for you. You must go read it, right now, it's fantastic! So adorable, so cute, so fun. For book lovers, just like Grabenstein's other book ~ [b:Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library|16054808|Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library|Chris Grabenstein|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1379335670s/16054808.jpg|21839952]. Read this one and that one, you won't be sorry!

retelling bits of classic adventure stories isn't writing. it could be, but this wasn't.

This is a fun adventure story that will especially appeal to kids who are somewhat familiar with some of the fictional characters that come to life (Robin Hood, Hercules, The Three Musketeers, Pollyanna, etc.). I dunno, I liked it but not as much as I liked Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library, which contains more subtle literary references.
adventurous funny lighthearted fast-paced
