Okay after the aggressive updates I made on this book, I actually enjoyed the back half of the book way more than the front half. I was like perpetually annoyed by the humor & the annoying dynamic between the characters but yk what i love an angsty romance, sue me!

I just do not care about these characters. I am bored. I’m sorry but I do not care that another white rich white woman who is overly privileged but I’m supposed to feel bad for her because someone’s dad cheated or some shit and doesn’t wanna live in a nice house that was just handed to her.

The second half of the book was much better. Parts were funny but it just was hard to get into for me. Not quite enough going on in the story.

Rating 4 on the reread.

Emily Henry is a master at creating relatable (while still flawed) characters. Julia Whelan is a master of bringing those characters to life in audio — I am just giddy listening to her narration. I can’t wait for this to be made into a movie.

That being said, this entire book was two best friends pretending they weren’t in love with each other until they make out & then it ruins the relationship (
he because he didn’t want the first time to be while drunk, and she because she pretended to him it meant nothing
). Bit if a miscommunication trope in that neither would tell each other how they really felt. The ending felt rushed and aggravating as a reader because it was just so tension filled and then relieved immediately.

I am not into friends to lovers. I strongly believe that friendships between people who are attracted to the others gender should be normalized and part of media. But Emily Henry never disappoints. Her writing was beautiful and the characters sooooo lovable. I had a good time.
