I ABSOLUTELY LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BOOK!! There isn't a thing I would change about this book. I'm just sad that I finished it. I wish I could rewind time and read it again for the first time. This might even be my favorite of these intersecting stories that Karina has written. I've ALWAYS been a HUGE fan of Karina's so naturally I was excited for this, even more so when I found it it had a forbidden romance element to it. Hell, I would've loved this without any sex scenes in it AT ALL because Karina's writing is so beautiful it just holds me enraptured. The sex scenes were just an added bonus. ;) This second chance romance kept tearing out my heart and putting it back together then it would start all over again. I was wrecked and sucked in as soon as I finished the prologue. I knew I was done for.

One of the things I've always loved about Karina's books are her real and flawed characters. That certainly applied to Brigs and Natasha. Reading about their flaws and all the mistakes they made, made me love them more. I connected to them better which was why I couldn't stop crying while I read their story. I felt everything they felt and cried when they were devastated or even happy. I can't forget about Kayla and Lachlan! I loved reconnecting with them as well.

I'm REALLY hoping there's more books with these intersecting characters!! I can't get enough of them!!

This book was told in first person through the hero and heroine's POV.

I knew I was going to love Brigs!!!! But my god Professor Blue Eyes was a nutty professor and it was AMAZING.

I was dying to read this book but at the same time I was scared to read it because of what had happened to Brigs family and it was horrible but maybe because I created horrible scenarios in my head before reading it that it didn't hit me as hard as it should or so I thought until chapter 70 that's when I lost it and the tears came. I expected more grief or a more sad story and I'm not saying it wasn't just no the amount I was expecting but I'm not saying it in a bad way not at all I loved the story and Brigs and Natasha were adorable.

I freaking LOVE the McGregor keep them coming ;)

“Just promise to rise,” I tell her, my voice hoarse. “With whatever is thrown our way. Promise me you’ll rise. Fuck the ashes. You’re fire. We’re fire.”

It was a beautiful love story. I liked that they never really gave up on each other!!

The Lie is my absolute least like in this series. Miss Halle started us with a good start. A hero who is burned down with his guilt, loss and his past. His determination to do right by himself. A good start.

I even like Natasha. She is likrable. She is not upstick prude. She is confident in herself. So the plot flows nicely until Melissa plot showed up.
This is where everything went downhill. I think Melissa plot is not necessary. Her appearence made this whole book undesirable and confusing.

So sad that a good start ends with bad ending.

I loved The Play and The Debt, but this one fell flat for me. I didn’t really like either character...

4.5 Professor Blue Eyes Stars. I loved everything about Brigs and Natasha. I adored their banter and connection and the idea of love versus settling. I loved how they handled the messy bits. I loved more Lachlan and Kayla.

Review: Although the writing was beautiful, I took way too long to finish this book than I normally would. It's not that I didnt have the time to read, its because I literally had to put this book down a bunch of times - simply out of boredom. It wasnt until 50% in that I actually became invested in finding out what happens next. The back and forth between Natasha and Brigs was annoying to me. It just became way too repetitive. "I love you"
"I love you too, I've never stopped"
Then of course came....
"we cant do this, it's not right"
Then the "I love you" and "this feels right" continues all over again!
Majority of the book consisted of this back and forth between them. (Like I said annoying!)
Im not saying that they didnt have obstacles in their way cause they did and for the record Melissa is just straight cray cray! I have no idea how Natasha never caught on to this when it was so damn obvious! Guess you can say it's apparent she's Naive.
I loved Brigs and his story! It literally broke my heart and I had mad respect for him when he did the right thing at the end of the book. Plus the whole sponge bob thing at the end cracked me up! I guess its safe to say that The Offer is still my favorite in this series.

I loved this book, but I have to be honest, I read to escape reality and in no reality is “cottage cheese legs” sexy or hot and any sex scenes after that just made me cringe.

Well… I hate to admit this but I think The Lie was the weakest installment of the McGregors series. I think I got stymied with the plot being illogical at times as well as the characters being on the boring side. Our leads, Brigs and Natasha, just weren’t engaging enough to really get me into their story. I was only in like with them, not in love.

The premise is a second chance romance. Brigs and Natasha met four years ago and fell in love. The problem was that Brigs was married at the time and he so decides to leave his wife. When he tells her she flips out, gets drunk, and gets in a car wreck that kills both her and their two year old son. (By the way, this is how the book starts. Wow… that was a bit much right off the bat!) So Brigs and Natasha feel guilty and don’t see each other for four years until they happen to run into each other again. I suppose you could call that “fate.” The story was told in both the present and in flashbacks. I really wasn’t feeling the flashbacks. Every time a chapter started and it said “four years ago” at the head I literally groaned out loud. I just wasn’t getting much out of reading about how these characters used to feel. I guess it all really turned into more of a “show” me don’t “tell” me kind of situation.

Also, this is a romance that started as an affair. Luckily, Karina Halle was at the helm to tell this story. The great thing she does is she never asserts her own opinion on the issue. She neither demonizes nor romanticizes their actions but allows the reader to form their own opinion as the story unfolds. While I fully think cheating is incredibly wrong and their actions in the beginning weren’t in either of their best interests, I was also able to sympathize with them. Brigs and his wife are in a pretty unhappy and loveless marriage to begin with and sometimes things just happen that are out of your control, like falling in love. So, strictly from a narrative standpoint, I really enjoyed the choice to leave this a bit morally ambiguous.

I mentioned earlier that at times I found the plot to be illogical and this was mainly due to Natasha’s roommate Melissa. (Warning: this is going to get spoilery…) My hackles got raised the second I met Melissa. There was just something so incredibly off putting about her. I was honestly thinking that this was going to turn into a Single White Female kind of situation.

While I understand how a crazy, jealous, friend may have a place in a story I don’t know why one was in The Lie. Melissa just wants Natasha to be miserable because, according to Melissa, Natasha doesn’t deserve the life she has. So she basically just holds their relationship hostage but for the life of me I can’t figure out why. Who does this bitch think she is? I just don’t think this aspect of the story was developed any further than for an element of drama in the story. I think this whole angle should have either been scrapped entirely or retooled into something much more sinister. As it is, it was just so weird and stupid.

So I guess over all, I’m sticking with my comment that I’m in like with The Lie but not in love with it. I think I just wanted some more spice, some more laughs, just more. But on the other hand, I really did enjoy the epilogue and it finally succeeded in giving me a real laugh out loud moment. I was happy that everything worked out ok in the end for Brigs and Natasha. Also, the smut was pretty stellar. Even though I wasn’t that impressed with this one, I will still continue on with the series with The Debt.
