This science fiction dystopia feels eerily close to reality, taking societal pressures on motherhood and an overbearing government to new extremes. The writing is clear and digestible, making it an easy read despite the many heartbreaking moments. The pace ebbed and flowed, with a bit of a lull towards the end, but ultimately, it delivered a rewarding conclusion. The main character, Frida, is both easy to judge and highly relatable, especially in her moments of disdain and anger. Her motivations to be there for her daughter are clear and drive the story's arc. This would make an excellent limited series, with space to explore the supporting characters and expand the world. I’d love to see more from this author because her voice is powerful and clever. This book is a fierce take on the role of women and mothers through a dystopian lens, and I highly recommend checking it out.

I immediately loved the writing style of this novel and was hooked from the start. I understand some people not being able to empathize with Frida but in a twisted way I understand her mind. I was rooting for her. It made me tear up at points which doesn’t happen often but, the way her being torn from her baby was spoken about got me. Definitely going to purchase so I can re-read
