Boy oh boy did I love this book! I don’t think I’d classify it as a cozy mystery though. This was a charming book about a community where a murder happens, but I felt the book was more about all the lovely people of McGill. Can’t wait for more books about Stella!

Lost of religious and conservative views in this book. Just had to stop reading it because I wasn’t feeling it

I received an ARC from Netgalley. G.A. McKevett is one of my favorite authors. I try never to miss a book. I was delighted to find that Granny Reid is getting her own series. This book was awesome. I loved reading about younger Stella Reid and the grandkids. Plenty of action and it was nice to know how Granny came to have the kids. Must read for everyone.

I borrowed this because I was looking for a fluffy Christmas cozy mystery (for those of us who crave not-too-serious murder mysteries after binging too many Hallmark Christmas movies). It turned out to be more serious than I thought that it would be, but in a good way. It's about a small town, but it feels more realistic because of the way in which the residents are imperfect, sometimes petty, and always in everyone else's business. I also love Granny's character, and the way that she fiercely and lovingly looks after her grandchildren. Granny is curious and wants to solve a mystery as much as anyway, but above all else she is loving and kind, even when she doesn't want to be. The book also packs a little extra gravity, because Granny's family lives in a rural area and is poor; the major conflict of the book, more so than the murder mystery, is how Granny can keep her grandbabies safe, even though there mother is a spiteful alcoholic.

SpoilerAm I misremembering or does this book not jive with the back story we are given in the Savannah Reid series? I thought Savannah and her siblings were rescued from the ally behind the bar where her mother was drinking by some big tall policemen and delivered to Granny Reid and that is where her desire to be a policewoman came from. Of course at the end of the book there are only 7 Reid siblings and we know that there will ultimately be 9 so perhaps somehow this will all make sense in the end. More realistically I think I can just expect some loosey goosey consistency that you get in almost all silly cozies.

This was a fun cozy read. The mystery itself takes place in the early 1980’s which was a fun time period to read about. Stella reminded me a bit of my own grandma which I loved. The end was a bit of a surprise and I really liked it. It was a bit grittier than most cozies but the story was great. Looking forward to the next installment as I have a few questions that I need answered and I want to visit these characters again!

I am not going give any stars because this book hits really close to home. I saw myself as those kids. I went through similar upbringing. I feel wrong giving it a rating.

It was a good book. I loved the family dynamic of stella and her grandkids. Waycross was my favorite character definitely. I hope we get to learn more about him being able to communicate with his grandpa in later book. I broke down reading the car accident scene. I felt bad for the kids. I am glad stella knocked her out. She deserved that. She had great kids and was missing out.

Apparently this book is the first in a series of prequels to the Savanah Reid series. It's a cute little story about a grandmother, her drunken daughter-in-law, her 7 grandchildren and the death of the town slut.

I like Granny Reid.
