Exciting and not too badly narrated, but it lacks the extra something to make it a truly brilliant book.

Did I hate John? Yes. Did I still enjoy the  book? Yes, because I was looking forward to Alice killing his ass
Did he die? NO Did the Father Son reunion make me cry? YES Did it make me think of Lewi in Krakow and actually make me feel sympathy for John? Yes….

I really enjoyed this. While he is a merciless killer, John Lago is somehow extremely likable. The author does a great job of sprinkling in some really dark humor and the action sequences are written in such a way that it felt like I was watching them rather than reading them. The pace is faster than I expected, especially near the end, and there were a bunch of twists that I did not see coming.

Obviously, a book about a contract killer is very violent, so if violence and language bother you, don't read it.

Enjoyable throughout but I feel it also had lots missing. Over the top mayhem, for the most part, this book needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. Unrealistic combat exchanges and character motives stop this book from being anything higher than a 3 for me.

Still, despite this, it was fun to read and was also incredibly different to anything I’ve read before, so it gets marks for that. Unique in many ways, it was also cliche at times and was very “movie-like”. Perhaps this was on purpose as the main character seems to be movie obsessed.

The story was decent with an easy enough plot to follow. Swaying away occasionally to give us throwbacks, it does enough to keep you reading. The ending was a bit of a shocker, but not one I was completely in love with.

The character work was mainly good, I found myself caring about key persons and their outcomes. The first-person element of this book is what the premise is, but because of personal preference, I wasn’t the biggest fan.

Overall a solid book that was something different from the typical crime thrillers. Not something I’d recommend if you need a solid reliable story to immerse into. If you just want a fun easy read that’s got an action-packed plot then I would recommend it.

Despite cringing at the descriptive violence, this book was so funny. I liked the mix of narration styles and disliked all the characters - as was probably intended.

Read the blurb and it sounded interesting; should have asked my husband who had just read it if it was any good.
It reads like the author had watched the newer James Bind movies and Mr. and Mrs. Smith and put it into a book.
It's not funny and not very good.

Well written and action-y. I really liked this book and it's twists and turns. The author was great at really making the scenes come alive in my mind.

I read this because I was going insane reading only things for class- textbooks and classics. It was funny, in that plucky kind of way that happens when you regularly break what is essentially the fourth wall. It did get a bit weird toward the end when (spoiler starts here) the chick he was dating double crosses him and then shows him the intern's handbook that supposedly he is still writing. I read this a month or two ago and I'm back to textbooks which have fried my brain, so I may be misremembering it. It was the kind of book that I didn't really get caught up on plot holes though. Like Cheetos for your brain.

Good. Engaging. I saw one of the twists coming but that didn't deter from the story. Amazing for a first book, didn't feel like a first book. :)

I would label this an extremely fast paced, somewhat humorous action-adventure novel. My only problem with this book is that it seemed to lack soul. So, without anything to soften the edges, the gritty and graphic elements in the main character and plot didn't seem quite as likable or believable as the author probably intended.
