Overall: 4/5
Feeling: Inspired for life.
Recommend: Friends and Families.

This book is all about good and evil and below quotes from the book should enforce it:
“About the nature of human beings. I discovered that confronted by temptation, we will always fall. Given the right circumstances, every human being on this earth would be willing to commit evil.”

The story begins in a mountain town named Viscos in France with 281 inhabitants. Everything was going smooth as most of the inhabitants were old, loyal and generous. One day a rich stranger named Carlos with approx 22Kg of gold enters the town and approaches the youngest girl of the town named Chantal Prym for a bet. The bet was to inform other inhabitants that if someone turns up murdered in the next 7 days, he would give all his gold to these 281 inhabitants which can help multiple generations and coming. Things start to get ugly when inhabitants like Mayor, Priest, etc start discussing the murder. With lots of beautiful short stories unfolding the book ends with the question still unanswered "If Humanity is Good or Evil?".

Few quotes I liked from the book is as follows:

"You were in paradise, but you didn't recognize it. It's the same with most people in this world; they seek to suffer in the most joyous of places because they think they are unworthy of happiness."

“Anyone who loves in the expectation of being loved in return is wasting their time.”

“People want to change everything and, at the same time, want it all to remain the same.”

“Because you believed I was capable of behaving decently, I did.”

"Man needs what's worst in him in order to achieve what's best in him."

“There are two kinds of idiots - those who don't take action because they have received a threat and those who think they are taking action because they have issued a threat.”

“Love, too, was just a question of time”.

.- Happy Reading -.
