This is the first book I’ve finished in years and I read it in a couple of days. Perfect easy read for someone just getting back into reading, I loved the plot and Eddie.
Although I’m going to need to sue for emotional damages as I can’t stop crying.

1. Our lives are interconnected- I completely agree.
2. There is nobility of sacrifice- Another strong point.
3. Anger destroys oneself- Not only was the point itself shallow and idealistic, the actual section was ridiculous.
4. Love endures- The story was strong in this part but the lesson felt kitschy. Yes, memory exists after someone dies but it’s dismissive to equate that to the real relationship.
5. Your life has purpose- Ended on a strong note despite some shaky world building. The parallel between the burnt girl and carnival girl was great.
I would be too critical calling this book bad but it felt more forgettable than classic. Suspense is done very well, enhanced by the staccato chapter structure and time jumps. Other moments, like making Tala speak broken English, fall apart at the most basic levels of inspection. The story achieved its goal in making me contemplate my own life but that felt largely due to the subject matter.

Filled with too many clichés and the shortness made the story feel rushed, and not enough time to unpack Eddie’s life
