I’ve been reading a lot about grief lately, and this take has felt the most incomplete so far. Albom does raise interesting questions and leaves some unanswered. The dreamlike, sleepy setting and mood is what I enjoyed most about this book.
What I didn’t know what to do with was how he engaged with the concept of forgiveness and justice, particularly as it related tothe attempted rape of his mother. At the end of the book, he felt at least he felt SOME remorse for killing Tala, but the assault seemed to be brushed away as his father’s friend having a bad day without any other intellectual assessment.
Overall, I didn’t love or hate this book. There were interesting pieces to find worth in, once I sidestepped the sometimes overly syrupy sentiments.

2.5. Rounded up. Decent concept, okayish execution. I liked the length, pacing and aspects of the character development but felt it lacked the emotional depth one would expect from a book exploring this concept. And while I enjoyed some of the more quotable lines, Albom holds the reader's hand through too much of this book for his messages to have their desired impact.
