I can’t tell if this aged well or not

I liked the movie better. The book has better depth and less adventure.

This was a very interesting book; I saw the movie a while back and enjoyed it, so I wanted to give the book a try. It wasn't the same as the movie...some parts were better, and some not as good.

The rotating perspectives were interesting; it really helped you to see how both Nick and Norah viewed events, how they interpreted the same things, and how their thoughts about things progressed. The writing of both authors was unexpectedly beautiful, in a crude, urban sort of way. Some really cool things get expressed by both characters, complex feelings are put into words that are sometimes so lyrical they border on a kind of poetry. I've always appreciated any author that can do that, and it makes me feel like just reading about has opened up a new way of thinking about love, life, and connections.

All that said, I think the near-constant swearing could probably have been toned down. I can't say it ruined my enjoyment or anything, because I've read enough books with bad words to deal with them in print, but it often felt totally unnecessary. It didn't really do anything to enhance the characters or their respective voices, and it took away from the emotional weight that cursing can occasionally bring to good books.

All in all, a very unique love story; I might try another book by Cohn and Leviathan.

Loved the way the book is written, one chapter is said by Nick, the other is Norah. Sometimes is the same situation but through the two points of view or the situation just continues by the other one. It´s so easy to read, it flows.

Nick is cute and almost too naive to believe lol and Norah é that kind of girl who´s interesting, mysterious letting everyone confuse cause she´s not a princess. Theirs thoughts are explicit in the text, full of titles and quotes from punk rock songs and impossible to not identify with. It´s not a idealized story, it has that truth feeling and is very real. The language isn´t clean, there´s lot of bad words and curses, but I didn´t think is was pointless... the story goes on a punk scene, if people talked too right would be at least weird.
In the end, I enjoyed the book and now I want to watch the movie!

Ah, it´s impossible not to keep singing "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" :)

really glad i decided to read this even though i HATED the movie. they seriously destroyed this book when they made that movie. the book is great.

The characterization in this title was amazing! Each character cam alive from page one. A funny, quick read. I'm only sorry it ended so soon.

The music element of this book drew me to it. Despite it's short length, it has some great insights into relationships, and it is surprisingly sexy. I really like the film too, although I'd say the book is less PG.

Nick: A bassist in a "queer core" band
Norah: Just happens to attend a show he's playing

Nick: A nice guy currently suffering from a broken heart
Norah: A good girl trying to get over her no-so-good ex

Nick: Asks Norah to pretend to be his girlfriend for 5 minutes so he can avoid his ex and her new guy
Norah: Agrees

Told from alternating points of view, the story proceeds from there. One kiss, one incredible band, and one wild night later, Nick and Norah find out that they have a lot more in common than evil exes and eerily similar taste in music. I found this quick, fun, and funny. Not wholly realistic in terms of how teens act or talk, but charming enough that you don't hold that against it.

Michael Cera's going to be in the movie. Go see it, but read this first. And also you can go on itunes and download their infinite playlist, which you should do, for no reason other than the song, "something about what happens when we talk," which is excellent played on repeat, especially while you're in the shower. Along with Giving Him Something He Can Feel, by Aretha. Also on the playlist, also excellent in the shower.

Megabarf. Irritating teenagers being irritating. I wish I'd bailed on this immediately.
