This tied up everything very nicely. I love how El stayed consistent throughout the entire series and that we got an ending that felt good. I agree with El though… A certain Domina really should be punished for what she did. That part surprised me lol

This was a riveting and epic conclusion to the dark fantasy Scholomance trilogy! So many of my burning questions were answered in this one, and the new setting allowed for lots of different plot points to emerge and weave together.
I’ve really loved seeing the emotional growth from our main character El, as she tackles the monsters inside and outside her head, and starts to believe that she doesn’t always have to go it alone. Though this book unfolds at a much faster pace than the previous two, it never felt too rushed, and some of the newer characters really helped move things along (thank goodness for Liesel).
In addition to being a pretty fun dark fantasy series about wizards and monsters, Novik built in political undertones of privilege and oppression from the very first chapters, and all of El’s complicated feelings about enclaves provided much of the plot for this book. I loved seeing the teenage characters engage with the large systemic problems in their world, even when it was hard.
If I had one complaint: this series has a particular quirk of lots of high-stakes action combined with lots of narration, with El’s internal monologue often interrupting the action, and I mostly enjoyed this stylistic choice, but after a while I found myself wishing for a few more moments outside of El’s head.
Overall, an excellent and imaginative series with a deeply satisfying ending!
