this book had a much faster pace than the previous two, and so much more happened. something was always happening, to the point that the progression of events felt a bit rushed and there wasn't enough time to explore what was happening for the characters emotionally/psychologically. especially Orion when he went with them all to Beijing, even though it was absolutely not in the mindset to be going on international trips and fighting monsters. Orion's characterisation also became quite shaky in this book, the fact that he was technically a maw-mouth doesn't impede on this, but he doesn't really have a distinct personality. Which is something that El herself brings up constantly, however, this is never really addressed or resolved. The only thing that becomes added to make Orion a distinctive person and not just a mindless mal hunter is that he loves El, which feels a bit simplistic a character's entire personality, motivation, and desires. but mostly I still loved this book and I loved seeing everything FINALLY get resolved.

This was a solid ending to the series. It was a good look at how we can choose to embrace our destiny after years of fighting against it and that how it looks to others isn’t necessarily the truth of the matter.

El really grew on me in this book. Her raw grief and her acceptance of herself were written well. Overall a decent series.

It was alright. It would've been better if I didn't read it so much later than I read the first book, so the blame isn't fully on this finale.

I just stopped caring about most of the characters since I barely remembered their intricacies & personalities from past books, except for El & Orion themselves.
This makes it harder considering Orion isn't even in a large portion of the book and I'm sitting through the most boring first quarter of the book without Orion & without the interesting dark magic school (that everyone is reading it for).

Started becoming better around 38% or when El spoke with
Orion's parents.
Last 50%, even better. But the climax & its 2 major plot twists was what made it worth giving the book a read.
This kind of echoes one of the problems I had with the 2nd book - it takes a whole lot of rambling monologues to reach the good parts of the book. It bogs it down, makes it too slow paced with repetitive thoughts from El, & the whole book suffers from it.

Also, WHY did El and Liesel
shag?
Why. It comes across as very odd. No one asked for it since it's so random and I see many people found it as unnecessary as I did. No tension, hardly a good reason for it, no likeability, no time for that shit.
There was just NO need for it nor the many filler-like events that happened in the book to make it longer than needed.
