Naomi Novik the author you are omg. This was one of the most well thought out and connected series I’ve ever read. Every book lead right into the next one, there were zero plot holes and it was all just so so incredibly good.

The second last chapter in this book I absolutely sobbed but it just proves how well this author has written the story and the characters that go along with it.

Ps. Jas, literally one of the best book suggestions I’ve ever got and now I’m going to go and recommend it to everyone else.

i had to pull out the laptop to write my review for this one, i still genuinely think it's one of my favourite fantasy trilogies out there from lore building to an innante understanding of the worlds magical system and the unexpected but very poignant reflection on how the class system effects education on top of creating probably my favourite female mc and a top tier romance subplot. i dont know its not revolutionary for what the dark academia magic schools genre has been but if you can achieve perfection i think this is the closest something have ever been.
the first two books had a sense of tension that i was fully bought into because yes it was terrifying but i was also so incredibly giddy at these characters and their humour and personalities, i do think the commentary on class structure and wealth is so incredibly consistent and i'm glad galadriel stuck to her opinions throughout and honestly i wasn't sure if the third book could have that same level of tension outside of the magical school but it just got so much better with the lore and the world building. ik the magical systems are so detailed in this because they're so inclusive which is why i noticed novik made sure to repeat certain things throughtout the books but if you don't like lore heavy books this just isn't for you, i very strongly disagree that its convoluted and maybe you should just try it again if you don't like it.
dont ever talk to me about the main couple in this series i think they invented romance and made me cry at 2am so its over.
but all in all im just gonna bullet point why this is great:
novik is brilliant at writing and her prose is god tier
world building that includes cultural nuances and has the racial and capitalistic nuances of the real world
magic
bisexual mc
mc who is a bitch
mc who is the anthithesis of the chosen one and prophesised to be the greatest evil that has ever been
men die!!!!
god tier romance subplot
autistic male love interest (to me)
a trio of girls and their friendship will save the world
just an incredible set of female characters
good healthy loving parenting

An excellent conclusion to the series! All the clues were there so it was really fun to put pieces together of the several little mysteries, and as always I adore the magic worldbuilding and system which is so detailed and well developed. The characters are also amazing!! I loved this series and will definitely reread one day. Highly recommended!
