A spiritual and meditative book processing the author’s experiences accompanying asylum seekers, passion for translation work, bilingual upbringing and family history. Highly recommend for those who also accompany asylum seekers (many, many reflections really resonate with my experiences, questions, interrogations and hopes) and those who accompany those who accompany asylum seekers :P would love for it to be translated into Spanish someday.

How can we look away from the inhumanity of the immigration system in America? How can we not look away, when we cannot comprehend easily the scope and depth of the injustices happening? Alejandra Oliva dives into the subject persistently, examining it from many angles. Through her work as a translator at the border, as a volunteer helping people seeking asylum, and as a Mexican American. She uses the lens of translation to explore, what does it mean to not look away?
